We’re excited to share some big news: After 50 years as Mystic Valley Elder Services, we’re now Mystic Valley Aging Services.
Why did we change our name? Our new name better reflects who we serve and how our mission has grown over the years.
- We help adults with disabilities and caregivers of all ages.
- We support older adults who don’t consider themselves a “senior” or “elder.”
- Many people believe terms like “senior” and “elderly” feed into stereotyping of older people and negative ideas about aging. We want to help promote a positive view of aging — one that recognizes everyone’s right to live independently and with dignity at every stage of life.
What’s Changing, What Remains the Same
We are building a more streamlined, user-friendly website. You will see some changes designed to make it easier to find the information and resources you need.
All our phone numbers and email addresses will continue to work.
We remain a non-profit agency, committed to our mission and our communities, as we have been since 1975. Our programs and services will not be affected. We’ll continue offering care, information, and resources in Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Medford, Melrose, North Reading, Reading, Revere, Stoneham, Wakefield, and Winthrop.
We’ll also continue to be a federal Area Agency on Aging and one of Massachusetts’ Aging Services Access Points, working with the Executive Office of Aging & Independence to help people live with dignity and respect in their homes and communities.
Along with our new name, we introduced a new logo featuring blue and green lines woven together in a circle. It represents the network of support we’ve built with communities, care providers, and service organizations. It also gives a nod to the valleys and waterways of our region.
Embracing Our Future
Our name change coincides with our 50th anniversary. In 1975, we were a small agency offering a handful of services in just a few cities. Today, our organization delivers a comprehensive range of programs across 11 communities. We’re excited to build on our legacy as we look toward the next 50 years as Mystic Valley Aging Services.
